I subbed for The Seamstress of Sound last Thursday evening and spent the night remixing and disassembling the inauguration and anything else that I came across.

We said goodbye to George, listened to bad poetry, some frightening and shockingly bigoted schizophrenic ranting from Francis E. Dec and played some of the new(ish) John Zorn album The Crucible.

Thanks for the requests! I’m always glad when it works out and I or KBOO actually have the songs that people want to hear. Dumpster Dave requested Buzzcocks’ “Ever Fallen In Love” and there just happened to be a live version in the KBOO library. He called back a little later to request The Clash’s “Armagideon Time”, and I was just about to play a different cut off The Clash - Live At Shea Stadium. Serendipity is what I think they call it.

And then there is the guy that calls weekly requesting Ministry’s “N.W.O” - he needs it to make his time at work go by faster. KBOO (and KPSU) used to get me through long evenings doing data entry for the post office, so I can totally relate.

Inauguration Ambient Media Mix

Categories:

I can't simply watch anything anymore, no matter how anticipated or exciting. Such is my musical ADD that I can't listen to anything without mixing it with something else. You know you're a hopeless mix geek when you try to see if you can't plug more than one audio device into your car stereo at once.

So, when my workplace allowed us to watch the inauguration in the conference room, I decided to avail myself of my advanced (and largely unauthorized) A/V setup in my office to enjoy the proceedings in private.

Happy Birthday to my sister Wendy! I played B-52's "Strobelight" for her, even though she was probably asleep. When we were kids we used to laugh so hard at that song, especially when Fred Schneider says "Lemme kiss your PINEAPPLE!"

In other news, I should have a couple of guests on the program next month. Boy Eats Drum Machine is a local one-man band whose album "booomboxxx" is a great listen. Super XX Man also live here in PDX, they have a new album out called "There'll Be Diamonds" and there's a song on there called "Medication" that I think is the best thing they've ever done. I should have more specific information soon as to exact dates and times.

The Funked Up episode. Enjoy and call in at 503-231-8187. So check out a band called Spin-17. A duo of experimental music artists that will truly blow your mind and rock your world...if of course you like having your mind blown and your world rocked. I do.....consider the alternative.

And while we're waxing whatever, why hold back, time is short.

” The End Of An Error"(The W Years) 1/20/09 3am

Categories:

As 2009 dawns anew, we find our nation facing the hope and promise of a new administration and the anticipation of something different- an historical change to truly believe in. But before we can honestly move forward, it might be useful (if not somewhat amusing and painful) to look back over our collective shoulders on the last eight years - lest we forget our past. So it is with great pride and fanfare that Brian presents, for your aural (dis) pleasure on Inaugural Day the 20th day of January:” The End Of An Error"(The W Years). We will "sound trace" the rise and fall...and fall....
