Inviting our listeners to call for bite-sized astrological & tarot readings

Taking the opportunity of the Winter Solstice to check in with the natural world.

This is the darkest time of the year, with just about 9 hours between sunrise and sunset. To be in touch with power of mystery and dreaming or visioning is a necessary part of accessing one's core power, allowing one to be balanced, and act in a self-empowered manner.

This is the time to bring forth visions of how we want to effect change in our lives, our communities and the world.

Along with the discussion of the Solstice and earth-centered spiritual practices, we're offering bite-sized astrological & tarot readings to listeners during the show-  just call 503-231-8187

People are rising up to demand an end to police brutality coast to coast.

There is a long history of police violence that has led up to our current moment of outrage. Far from "spontaneous" the protests and outrage boiling over after the Ferguson and Eric Garner decisions can be seen as the next step in an ongoing movement demanding the abolition of police brutality and state violence against the people.

This morning we are speaking with Shahid Buttar, Executive director of the Bill of Rights Defense Committee.

Short Description:
Stripping women's civil rights in the name of fetal protection.
Once again ani and Lyn turn their attention to the on-going War on Women.

Tune in to hear spine chilling accounts of US women imprisoned for miscarrying, and oh so much more, as we look at the various laws that not only limit women's access to abortion, but actually criminalize women for being pregnant.

Since when do women waive their civil rights when they become pregnant?

Positively Revolting vigorously asserts that women are not incubators, a fetus is not a baby, and biology is not destiny.

The online gaming world is notoriously male dominated- and when women our speaking out to change this bastion of sexism, they have been targeted by vicious online harassment and retaliatory threats.  Anita Sarkeesian was forced to cancel a speech at Utah State University last week after the school received an email threatening to carry out "the deadliest shooting in American history" at the event. The email sender wrote: "feminists have ruined my life and I will have my revenge."

Positively Revolting on 12-02-11 Guest John de Graaf, Director of Take Back Your Time

program date:
Fri, 12/02/2011

What is more important than your life and happiness? What can you do to take back your time?

Ani and Lyn talk with author John de Graaf about the sad state of Americans over-working, even though many are under paid, or unemployed.  As people find a void of interconnectedness and meaning in their lives, they seek to fill it with more and more things, growing busier and busier to keep up with an unsustainable cycle.

Workers in the US work longer hours than their European counterparts.  People with no time often feel disengaged from civic life, and personal enjoyment. For example, the super busy rely on fast food over real food eaten with friends and family.

Please join our discussion with John de Graaf, as we explore how one can free themselves from the hectic hamster wheel consumerism and busyness.

John de Graaf is the Director of Take Back Your Time and outreach director of The Happiness Initiative.  He is a documentary filmaker and the co-author of Affluenza: The All-Consuming Epidemic and the newly-released, What's the Economy For, Anyway?: Why It's Time to Stop Chasing Growth and Start Pursuing Happiness

Positively Revolting on 11-18-11 Occupy Portland - an update on the actions of the last week, and plans for the future

program date:
Fri, 11/18/2011

Hosts Lyn Moelich and Ani have a conversation with three people who have been active with  Occupy Portland.

On Saturday, November 12th, thousands of people came out in support of the Occupy encampment.  When it seemed that a peaceful resolution was had after a night of stand-offs with the Portland Police, most of the supporters left.  Just a few hours later, the police moved in and "evicted" the camp.  At least one protester, Justin Bridges, required hospitalization following the mistreatment he received at the hands of the PPB.  Justin is a musician and American Sign Language interpreter, and as a result of the cops dragging him and kneeing him in the back, has (at least temporarily) lost the use of his right arm and leg.

There has been continued action in the days following the eviction.  In the last two days, there were major actions-- a PSU student walk-out, and N17-- a day of action against the major banks.

There are many more things planned for the future, including a March for Universal Healthcare, and a neighborhood discussion coming to Col. Summer's Park on Saturday, at SE 20th and Belmont, and a march on Sunday that protests the eviction of the original encampment.

Where does the movement go from here?  As part of the 99%, what do you want to see?  Have you been involved?  If not, why not?  What would it take to get you involved?

Guests were Kari Koch of Portland Central America Solidarity Committee, Axcelle Bell, and Cameron Whitten, who is pictured above, being beaten by police during the N17 protests11-17-11.

Positively Revolting on 11-04-11 Michael Meade

Positively Revolting on 10-21-11 mini-Astrology and Tarot readings

program date:
Fri, 10/21/2011

Checking in with mini-Astrology and Tarot readings for the masses.

As Samhain fast approaches and the wheel of the year turns us towards winter, Ani and Lyn thought it a fine time to tune in to the patterns of energy affecting us all. Combining their intuitive skills in tarot and astrology, they will offer brief on-air readings for callers to the program.

According to the Celtic tradition, this is the time of year where the veil between the worlds grows thinnest, allowing for psychic insight, and communicating with those who have passed over. This is a time that many cultures honor and celebrate the dead and ancestors. To continue that tradition, Ani and Lyn will welcome calls from listeners who would like to give thanks to an ancestor, celebrating their names and deeds.

There will be a very limited number of private consultations by Ani and Lyn offered as a thank-you gift to our listeners who contribute during the program. These consultations are a rare opportunity to have a more in depth reading with these two talented practioners.

News and updates from Occupy Wallstreet-- the beginning is near...

Ani and Lyn field information from the burgeoning Occupy Wallstreet movement.  We will speak with people in the Portland occupation, as well as New York.

Hundreds of cities around the world are participating in solidarity actions in support of the Occupy Wallstreet action which started an encampment on September 17th.  Bringing together thousands of people to discuss corporate greed and corruption, the occupiers are working together to create demands of significant changes to our system.

And it's spreading.

Permaculture! Getting skills to build our world in balance. NW Permaculture Convergence 10/14 - 16

Matt Bibeau will join Ani and Lyn to talk about permaculture.  What is it, and why is it important?  How can permaculture help us in these interesting times in which we find ourselves?  There is change all around us, and we know we need to transform our culture.  What tools does permacuture offer us on a local level?

The Northwest Permaculture Convergence will be held October 14 - 16th. With supporting events around the convergence there are opportunities to get involved in this transformative movement; providing opportunities for our bio-region to take a leap forward in the work that we need to do to transition from a degenerative to a regenerative culture.

Matt Bibeau is a core organizer of the Permaculture Convergence, a 4-day event focusing on proactive solutions to meeting the social, ecological and economical needs of our times, on a scale that builds community and local resiliency.

Matt received his Masters degree from Portland State University, he is a resident and educator at Tryon Life Community Farm where he serves as the organization's in-house permaculture teacher, as well as the Development Director of their outdoor school: Mother Earth School. Matt is also a core organizer of City Repair's Village Building Convergence and serves on the board of the Learning Gardens Institute and Wisdom of the Elders.

Positively Revolting on 09/16/11

program date:
Fri, 09/16/2011

With so many urgent situations, what's your priority for the US? Avoid letting fear be your guide.

As a nation we are ignoring the very real threats of climate change, a collapsing economy & humanitarian / basic support programs, and never ending wars at home and abroad, while continuing the madness of anti-terrorism hysteria.

Join Ani for a discussion on how fear is hurting us. What are you most concerned about?  Spriraling poverty? Climate change? The continuation of wars, seemingly without end? The ending of crucial social programs?  or the threat of a terrorist, doing something... somewhere, sometime.....

Joshua Holland is Ani's guest this morning. He is an editor and senior writer at AlterNet, and has just published the article “How Fearmongering Over Terrorism Is Endangering American Communities.”

Positively Revolting on 08-19-11 Perspective checked!

program date:
Fri, 08/19/2011

Perspective checked! Ani & Lyn explore the importance of travel.

What did you do on your summer vacation?  Ani accompanied her partner to Buenos Aires, Argentina, for a little medical tourism.  She wandered a city rich in street art and protests, and is left with the nagging question, "What can we do to bring people in the US out of alienation and apathy?"

Traveling is a great way to gain a new perspective of what is all around us.  As we live our lives day to day, our surroundings often become invisible.  Every now and again it's crucial to get out of our own fishbowls, so we can really see what's going on inside.

Please join us with your stories, your questions, and your comments at 503-231-8187, or email us at positivelyrevolting@gmail.com.

this morning's program: host & speaker

I am a daily KBOO listener; however, while todays speaker while speaking from the heart regarding her dismay over the Afganistan theater of war, she makes vague statements, with great emotion, but few references to facts, which could easily be woven into her statements to make them more illuminating, it would give more power to her rally cries. Tt feels as though I am simply listening to hyperbole LIKE ON CREEPY FOX NEWS!  The Hosts of the program, similarly, are never probing or asking for clarification of the important issue, an important question to probe is: "why ARE we there?".  This program is dithering, and the speaker is bland, unconvincing of any knowledge base, boring, 10th rate.  Additionally, this is typical of the "Positively Revolting" hour, I usually never tune in when I know these two hosts will be on, bcs. it is never a provoking program, it rarely reveals or provides any new information about anything.  If this program has to continue to be on at all, consider putting it on late at night....it is pablum.

Good Sista' Bad Sista' on the other hand was a great relief for me on Friday morning's programing, those women are sharp, witty and smart.

Do not dumb us down with this progam "Positively Revolting", it is a zero.

Pay Equality

I recently heard the argument that the pay differential between men and women is actually fair. This idea is based on the situation of women living longer than men but work the same period of time. This argument claims that the total difference of pay between men and women equals the cost of additional medical care spent for women in their senior years.

For example, let's say a man and a woman work the same number of years (about 40), in the same job with the same responsibilities, and the man makes 10% more than the woman. Say that the job pays (in constant dollars) an average of $30,000 over the forty years. The man makes $1.2 million over this period and the woman makes $1.08 million.

The difference is $120,000. Now at age 60, a man will generally live to be 75 and a woman will live to be 85. Most medical expenses are incurred in the last ten years of live. These costs are paid mostly by public funds through MediCare. The pay_inequality_is_fair argument holds that this $120,000 pay differential is used by society to pay the additional medical expenses that women use and men don't.

I realize that this argument will float like a lead zeppelin on the Positively Revolting community. However, you may want to be aware of it so you don't get blindsided by it in a public debate on the issue.

Thank you,
Alan in Portland

Where did Ani go?

Where did Ani go? I miss her!

I'm here, honest

Hi there, Melodie and I are hosting alternating weeks on Friday mornings, now. I hope you had a chance to hear my program with Norman Solomon last Friday, 11/7, but if you didn't, you can hear it online-- there is a link to the audio on this program page. I will host again on the 21st. Thanks so much for listening! with love & solidarity, ani

woo hoo!

Glad you're still involved in the show. Thanks for all that you do for our community!

much love, m

Wow... How about some positive feedback?

I must have picked a good week to start listening to KBOO. My unhealthy addiction to KPOJ has been shaken. What stirred me to radio hop was the recent clubbing and scrubbing of morning show co-host Heidi Tauber.

Thankfully (along with news I'm not hearing elsewhere) I struck gold with back to back to back mornings of call in shows which were right up my avenue. On Wednesday Barbara Bernstein and friends of the 40 Mile Loop took me on a bike ride down memory lane. The next day, Dave and Jo Ann took on the very difficult but extremely important topic of race and justice in America. I found the candor of the hosts and callers-in to be a much needed breath of fresh air.

Yesterday was quite synergenic. I didn't think anything Positively Revolting would be my pint of brew, but the community of thought that came together was positively revolutionary. I'm still not entirely successful in finding joy amidst the madness, but the range of emotions I was able to experience during the show were a welcome departure from depression. Together we just may succeed... or at least, survive.

KBOO, I think I love U. (And Jeff always has sumpin' to say to go along with that sexy voice! I'm glad he seems to hop around the dial too.)
