Out Loud is KBOO's queer culture radio show, celebrating & serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning & allied communities. We feature interviews with community groups, authors, musical talent, and anyone from the queer & allied communities. We strive to give voice to those not heard in the main stream media.

Interviews with two new voices in the LGBTQ Community

 Coming to Out Loud Radio December 6th will be an interview with Jennifer Pizer, newly appointed Director of Research for The Williams Institute, a think tank focussing on LGBTQ issues in America. Jennifer will focus on the top Gay news items of 2011 and what she thinks we should watch for in 2012.

The second half of the show will be an interview I recently had with David Weekley, who for more than 28 years has been an ordained minister. David recently published his first book, titled, "In from the Wilderness" a fascinating memoir of his transgender journey.

On tonights show Out Loud's newest member and host Natalie Marie so-hosting with Kyle in his farewell segment spoke with Trenton, the owner and operator of the local perfomance space and bar the Funhouse Lounge! Trenton talked about a number of the fun activities going on with the space, the improv theater productions they are doing, and invited all to come down and check out the lounge and bar in this new and all inclusive space on SE 11th and Division. http://funhouselounge.com/

Later, Natalie Marie conducted a phone interview with founding member Marsha Botzer, and economic/employment resource coordinator Breanna Anderson at the Ingersoll Gender Center in Seattle Washington. Marsha and Breanna spoke of the ongoing work at Ingersoll and the number of services they provide for transgender, gender variant and genderqueer folks in the community.  They also talked about the outreach the organization is doing and positive ways for that to be realized in a broader community. http://www.ingersollcenter.org/

We also spoke with Laura a local therapist working with trans and homeless youth in the community.  Laura discussed her ongoing work and some of the difficultie working within the community and her determination help and empower trans youth in Portland. Portland Queer Music Festival featured on Out Loud Radio

Our first music break is from Play/Start titled 'The Alibi'

We welcome Samuel, the Mastermind behind the festival, to the show and he shares all the important details of this upcoming event. The Portland Queer Music Festival welcomes 24 LGBTQ and allied bands on July 22 at two venues, with shows starting at 2pm. The all ages show is at Backspace and the 21 and older show is at the Someday Lounge.

This is the Second Annual Portland Queer Music Festival. In this segment, we talk about Samuel's task of listening to over 80 bands (who applied to be part of the festival) and choosing the 24 groups who will be performing on July 22 - among other things.

Our first music break is 'Mary', a new song from The I's. The I's are opening for Andrea Gibson & Tara Hardy on Thurs June 7 at 24Ten, located at 2410 N Mississippi Ave. Show starts at 8pm and tickets available at the door.

Next we welcome Aaron Ridings, from Oregon Safe Schools and Communities Coalition, and Trish Walsh, from Ogalla. Ogalla is the LGBTQ Bar Association of Oregon. Aaron and Trish share some background on the work of Oregon Safe Schools, and they update us on the statewide Safe Schools survey that happened recently.

We take a break to hear from Andrea Gibson titled 'Maybe I Need You'.

Aleks Stefanova joins us to invite everyone to the Tara Hardy & Andrea Gibson spoken word event happening on Thursday June 7th. The I's are opening & the show starts at 8pm. Aleks is a talented spoken word artist herself, and she is the founder of Q Poetry. She hosts a monthly Awkward Open Mic event, with the next one on June 16th.
