Pete Seeger Special

Pete Seeger Special

Friday May 14th, 12 noon to 1 :30 pm, on "Movin' On," hosted by Don Jacobson

Pete Seeger, who will be 91 on May 3rd, is still going strong. A folk singer, musican and activist, his optimism and faith in the common folk has never wavered. Dragged up before the House On Unamerican (sic) Activites Committee, he was accused of being a Communist and was subsequently blacklisted. Never giving up, he continued to perform where he could. He made a historic appearance on the Smother's Brothers TV program singing "Waist Deep In the Big Muddy" much to the dismay of the CBS officials.

Today's show

Hi folks.  I tuned in a little late and heard a gorgeous song at 12:10 or so.  The song was sung by a female with a lovely voice, passionatley singing about dying love,  some of the lyrics included "I can't see your face anymore" , "little girl gone"  "children are crying, ",  and I really would like to know who the artist is?  Can anyone tell me please?

I must locate that song you played today!

hello, I hope you read these comments as I didnt see a way to contact the show host directly via email.... so today (7/9/2010) almost near the end of your show you played a song where the lyrics talked about 'sisters of the road' ... 'you can find them down in old town' (which I assume is talking specifically about the very cool place = sister's of the road!)in the song it goes along and talks about the body of the buy who hopped trains was found @ the trainyard. anyways, it was an amazing song, and I'd love to find out who sings it and which album it's on so I can buy it, as it was a really great 'portland' song. thanks for everything you do -

Great show Laurie!

Hey Laurie.  Loved your show today.  Thank you for playing Kim, Jan and Harriet's CD.  It was good hearing Kim call in.

You do a great job!

Love

The second to the last song you played was a very slow female singer. The only line I vaguely remember went something like "just say that she's a rambler, just say that she's..."?

Can you tell me the artist and song?

Thank you,

Where to find "I'm Gonna Let It Shine Choir" recordings?

Hi. I stumbled upon your show (and your station) last week, and I really loved the 2 songs by the group you identify as the I'm Gonna Let It Shine Choir. I have not been able to locate any of their recordings. Are they defunct? Along with their label? A search for Round River turns up nothing but Bill Harley. Thanks for any info.

Nevermind - I found it

Bill Harley apparently put together this compilation album in 1990, over the course of a weekend, in a barn. The full title is: I'm Gonna Let It Shine: A Gathering of Voices for Freedom. You can buy it and listen to clips here:

Thanks for making me aware of this great recording.
