Every other Wednesday, alternating with David Lifton's "A Jazz World".

Bob Riddle is continuing the 25-year KBOO tradition established by the late Jim Andrews, in Jim's spirit:  the very best in jazz music, from the historical to the present. 

A jazz artist or musical theme is showcased from 2 to 3 p.m.  Our wealth of Portland-area-resident musicians is our focus from 3 to 4 p.m with "Jazz Current Events" Jazz Calendar.

Fond memories of Portland's Jazz Quarry (1976-1987),
and its regular pianist "The Professor" Eddie Wied (1925  -2007)
will be kindled by special guests Patricia Caringella, Mark Simon,
and Larry Nobori. They, and their music - and stories! -
will link those days to the present, including a new landmark building
to be built over the Jazz Quarry's former location.
 
   Larry is the initial link between Eddie and Italian jazz pianist
Giovanni Ceccarelli, whose music we'll hear as well.
Giovanni is currently one of Europe's leading musicians,
and responsible for Eddie's Italian CDs and tours.

   First, please tune in to Jazz Lives, hosted by Nick Gefroh, at noon,
for a tribute to Don Manning, who passed away on Tuesday, September 9.

   Don solidified the ongoing tradition of
truly unique jazz hosts at KBOO since we went on the air in 1968
with his memorable, long-running program "Bebop Spoken Here".

   KBOO would never have been the same without Don.
We'll play "Requiem" by Lennie Tristano, at the top of the show,
in tribute.

  We'll continue with both a preview, and a retrospective,
to Newport's Oregon Coast Jazz Party, whose music director,
Holly Hofmann, will guest by phone.
