Lobby day for a bill for universal, single payer health care for Oregon residents is scheduled for March 4th at the Capitol in Salem. Health and Healthcare forum features part 2 of a discussion of the bill with Mike Huntington of Physicians for a National Health Program, the group that worked with Jobs for Justice in developing it.

The rally on March 4th will start at 11 a.m., on the Capitol steps. At 1:00 people will go to talk with legislators. At 3:00 the universal health care bill will have its first reading. Everyone is encouraged to attend!

Today's guest is Joseph Keon, the author of "Whitewash: The Disturbing Truth Behind Cow's Milk And Your Health."

John Robbins, the author of Diet For A New America, says this about Whitewash in the foreword:

"I might be one of the last people you would expect to find questioning the value of dairy products for human health. Not that this is an easy question for most people. The assumption that dairy products are wonderful foods prevails throughout our culture with amazing tenacity. But in my family of origin, this assumption was held with a steadfastness that was virtually religious.
There was a reason. My father founded, owned and ran what became the world’s largest ice cream company --- Baskin-Robbins. Our house included a commercial-sized freezer with each of the 31 flavors, one for each day of the month. By the time I was 21, my father had manufactured and sold more ice cream than any human being who had ever lived on the planet. And he groomed me, his only son, to succeed him. It was his plan that I would follow in his footsteps.

Guest host Tami Dean speaks with Dr. Mary Fry about seasonal depression. Dr. Fry is a naturopathic physician and owner of a Healthy State of Mind, LLC; a clinical practice focusing on the natural treatment of mental illness. Dr. Fry obtained her degree in naturopathic medicine from the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. She continued her studies with an NIH (National Institute of Health) post-doctoral research fellowship in the department of Psychiatry at Oregon Health & Science University.
