Physicians for Social Responsibility Call for Health Study of Coal Transport through Oregon
The Physicians for Social Responsibility held a press conference yesterday regarding the health impacts of proposed coal transports through Oregon.
The group is calling on Gov. John Kitzhaber to conduct a full Health Impact Study before granting permits for the transport.

Commissioner Amanda Fritz, a registered nurse, orchestrated a meeting between Housing Commissioner Nick Fish and the Hunger Striker outside of City Hall this afternoon.

The event was a rally in protest of Postmaster General PAtrick Donahue's decision to make significant cuts to the US Postal Service, including cutting of Saturday mail delivery and shutting down many rural post offices. KBOO reporter Jennifer Kemp spoke with local transit justice organization Bus Riders Unite's Khanh Pham about BRU actions to secure accessible transportation for all Portlanders. Tri-Met created a projected budget which features fare increases and service cuts to bus servce. Pham sees these meaures as particularly affecting low income people and people of color. BRU wrote an alternative budget, which they presented to the Tri Met Board Meeting in June.
