norovirus outbreak
For the past week Oregon State Hospital has been dealing with a viral outbreak affecting over 70 people from its staff and patients.
The outbreak has been identified as the contagious norovirus. The norovirus leads to stomach flu and other gastrointestinal illnesses.
The illness is spread by contact with an infected person or bodily fluids, and most sufferers recover in a couple of days.
At Oregon State Hospital, 3 wards have been quarantined in an attempt to get the outbreak under control.

Department of peace city council
Today the Portland City Council unanimously voted in favor of a resolution calling for a Federal Department of Peace.

Hiroshima Day Commemoration
Today marks the anniversary of the world’s first nuclear bomb explosion.
That bomb was dropped by the United States airforce on Hiroshima, Japan on August 6th 1945.
It was followed three days later by a second nuclear bomb, also dropped by the U.S. airforce, on Nagasaki, Japan.
In Portland, three days of events have been organized to commemorate the horrific events of 1945.
