Tribute to John Talley

I met John T in 1982 when I first moved to Portland after a devorce. I sat down to listen to the radio and on came John's show "Indian World". I was so thrilled to hear some traditional Native music, I got up and danced and then later I called him to tell him how grateful I was that he was playing Native music and how it made me feel more at home and less stressed in the strange large city of Portland. He invited me to come down to the studio one day and I did. It was then that I met my best friend of 25 years or more.
He taught me the production part of the show and he then he taught me how to be a co-host and co-producer of the show.

Tillicum Wawa show is promoting a drive for winter coats and boots for children K-12.

KBOO's own Tillicum Wawa show is promoting a drive for winter coats and boots for girls and boys age K-12.

These children live on the snowy Pine Rdige  Reservation. They have been trying to get people to stop selling alcohol near their reservation and it has been fruitless so far. We can help them to keep warm this winter and help their cause to stop alcohol abuse on the reservation.. Listen to our archived show on 8- 30-12. about this problem.

Just drop off your donations to KBOO station at 8th adn Burnside. There is a bin to put them in.

We all thank you, our listeners, for your empathy and encouragement. Wado, Samantha King

Columbus Day..How about a Hitler or Gadafi Day?

Denver always has a demonstration counter to the Columbus Day parade...

I'm all for celebrating diversity, but how about NOT celebrating Columbus?!

Mohawk World to Honor John Houston Talley, Radio Host, Veteran and Mentor to ManyIndian Country Today Media Network. May 24, 2012.

John TalleyIn a tribute (Patricia Lenzi) wrote about her uncle and shared with Indian Country Today Media Network, Lenzi said that Talley volunteered at KBOO. When asked why he refused to get paid, he replied, “People say, ‘Well, why do you do that for no money?’ And I say, ‘Because people need the communications.

Exciting times ahead!

I am looking forward to the John Talley Memorial Event this Friday...People from across cultures will gather to honor the one and only, the late John Talley...

When I get the final of the program I will post it here.

I am honored to have interned with John here at KBOO in 2004. Little did I know that a senior project for my Bachelor of Arts degree from Marylhurst would propell me into radio or into a faithful friendship.. I am truly blessed to have known John and to have him as a friend.

Focusing on that has given me solace when false and greedy, mean and ugly acts have been directed at me during a time of grief..I have lost respect for those involved but I pray that those misdirected people will be redirected to a path more positive.

Donadaghvi,
