A protest is taking place right now in downtown Portland, as the U.S. trade representative pays a visit to the city.

A group of teen peacemakers are in Portland today to celebrate and honor local peacemakers.
Tonight the group will be presenting at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church – Community Center, Between NE 8th & 9th just South of Alberta at 6:30 pm.

Today the Portland City Council unanimously voted in favor of a resolution calling for a Federal Department of Peace.
A number of local residents spoke in favor of the resolution at this morning’s City Council meeting.

Today marks the anniversary of the world’s first nuclear bomb explosion.
That bomb was dropped by the United States airforce on Hiroshima, Japan on August 6th 1945.
It was followed three days later by a second nuclear bomb, also dropped by the U.S. airforce, on Nagasaki, Japan.
In Portland, three days of events have been organized to commemorate the horrific events of 1945.
