In Downtown Portland today, a group of Janitors and their supporters held a rally for a new, living wage contract. <?xml:namespace prefix = o>

Nearly two thousand union Janitors who work in the portland metro area are fighting for affordable health care for their families, securing sick days through a new master contract with employers.

Cuba Authorizes Sex-Change Operations

Sex-Change Operations for Transsexual citizens. 

KBOO’s Jacob Anderson-Minshall has more on the

The Associated Press reported Monday that Cuba has
official authorized gender-reassignment operations and will offer them free to
qualifying citizens.

The move—one of the latest
in a series of changes implemented by President Raul Castro since he succeeded
his elder brother, Fidel—puts Cuba above any US state in providing affordable
access to gender reassignment surgery.

Host Barbara Bernstein speaks with activist and author Tom Hayden. Hayden was a founding member of the Students for a Democratic Society in 1961, and author of its visionary call, the Port Huron Statement, described by Howard Zinn as "one of those historic documents which represents an era."

After helping lead street demonstrations against the war at the 1968 Chicago Democratic Convention, where he was beaten, gassed and arrested twice, Hayden was indicted in 1969 with seven others on conspiracy and incitement charges.
After five years of trials, appeals, and retrials, he was acquitted of all charges.
