On November 19th Eva Lake talked to Prudence Roberts, Sue Taylor, Elizabeth Bilyeu and Marie Sivak RE: Jaune Quick-to-See Smith's visit and lecture which is at ~ 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 21, in the Performing Arts Center, Sylvania Campus. Smith’s talk “My Life as a Cultural Arts Worker” will address not only her artistic process, but also the complex political and cultural symbols as well as narrative elements she weaves into her paintings, prints and other works. We discussed the lecture and also about the inception and development of PCC's Portland Women in Art Lecture Series.

On Tuesday October 29 at 11.30am Joseph Gallivan interviews Maribeth Graybill, The Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Curator of Asian Art at the Portland Art Museum.
Graybill will talk about Samurai! Armor from the Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Collection. The show is about the life, culture, and pageantry of the samurai, the revered and feared warriors of Japan—from one of the finest and most comprehensive collections in the world.
Samurai runs through January 12, 2014.

James Gallagher, New York artist and curator, was Eva Lake's guest on September 24th. He has published a new magazine called Secret Behavior.
Art Gym curator Terri Hopkins was our guest on September 10th - she retires in January 2014 after 33 years directing the gallery. Under her leadership, The Art Gym has become a regionally renowned gallery showcasing contemporary Northwest artists. Since its founding in 1980, The Art Gym has shown the work of more than 500 artists, produced more than 65 exhibition catalogs and sponsored numerous artist roundtables and public forums.

Guest host Wendy Webb speaks with LA Street Phantom aka Joey Krebs, a longstanding force in the L.A. street art scene.
The Denizen Gallery @Milepost 5 and the Plum Bum Gallery brought Krebs to Portland to perform "You Don't Know What Art i$” for the closing of his visual art show “Blacklisted and Banned.” He premiered the piece on this installment of Art Focus.
Joey Krebs, media activist, street artist, performer, and visual artist, along with his collective ARTSAVESLIVES, calls the commodiﬁcation of "street art" into question. Recently Krebs was one of the protesters of the censorship of the 2011 MOCA grafﬁti show.
LA Street Phantom aka Joey Krebs was cover artist for the punk-rock-rap group, Rage Against the Machine, for their first platinum album -- “The Battle of Los Angeles.” He was the creative director of two Rage Against the Machine music videos, including the MTV award-winning “Bulls on Parade,” and “Renegades of Funk.” These videos feature Phantom’s signature artwork, the silhouette or shadow, which serves as the archetype for the Public Everyman.

Cynthia Mosser has a show up at Augen Desoto this month. It's all about the egg, small and large pieces, layer upon layer of the oval. Some of the pieces are egg-shaped too. The show is called Eggs Obsession.
Our guests here include Ray Boyle, who curated Coffee with Cardamom at Place II at the Settlement in Pioneer Square. This show includes the solo exhibition Can You See Me Now? (Part One): Reflections on Palestine by Sarah Farahat, who was also our guest. Coffee with Cardamom also includes the group Exhibit Mirrors: A Middle Eastern/ American Collaboration.
The three curators from Appendix Project Space joined us: Joshua Pavlacky, Travis Fitzgerald and Zack Davis. The upcoming show at Appendix is Neverland by Daniel J. Glendening and Michael Welsch.

Our guest this week was Curtis Knapp of YU Contemporary. YU has been in the news a lot lately. It’s the new non-profit with grand aims and an even grander building. You can’t help but be inspired when you walk in there. The first exhibition is an archive from PCVA. Knapp discusses the space, the exhibition and various plans for YU.
Friends of the Library have opened up a pop-up on NW 23rd - where the beloved Music Millennium used to be. This pop-up will have revolving art shows from a huge community of artists as well as books on sale. Lenall Siebenaler is the director of the store and Judy Lindley is on the board of directors they joined us on Art Focus .
