Deb Stoner on her Botanical Portraits at Camerawork Gallery
Guest host Kathleen Stephenson speaks with Deb Stoner about her show "Channeling Karl Blossfeldt" at the Camerawork Gallery.

Deb Stoner's botanical portraits magnify and reveal details within the natural structures of the plants she photographs. Her process of making images is a slow and deliberate arranging and composing of flora and natural insects in ways that imply growth and change. Up close, one is able to examine the parts of subjects that may reveal surprises. These new black and white photographs made for Camerawork Gallery's intimate space are made from some of Portland's ordinary, yet magnificent, neighborhood gardens.

program date:
Wed, 01/21/2009

This is an interview with the two artists and the curators of this exhibition, Stefano Catalani and Namita Gupta Wiggers. For more information, see the museum's website.

Through countless small gestures of her craft, Mandy Greer employs humble handicraft processes and materials, executing her work through crochet, braiding, sewing and beading processes that use yarn, beads, shells, feathers and more.

Using figures clipped from the print media, Darrel Morris' large pieces are line drawings with thread, sharply graphic and monochromatic. Measuring six feet or more, the nearly life-sized imagery envelops and draws the viewer into the work to become an active participant.
