Ellen Lesperance was Eva Lake's guest on August 19th. Lespernace will show at Adams and Ollman in September. This was the final show for Lake, who leaves KBOO.

James Lavadour was Eva Lake's guest on August 5th. He has a show up at PDX Contemporry this month.

Elise Wagner was Eva Lake's guest on July 8th. She had a show at Butters Gallery.

Theresa Weil is doing a project called "Because She Cares," paintings of leaders in the non profit world. She was our guest in July 1, 2014.

Eva Lake  interviewed Sean Healy on June 17th. He currently has a show at the Elizabeth Leach Gallery.

Lisa Kaser and Grace Weston were our guests on April 8th. They had a show called Unfamiliar Faces at Waterstone Gallery.

Artists are taking over shuttered storefronts, transforming them into exhibition spaces. The top floor of Pioneer Place, once a hopeful shopping mall, was empty. Now we have Place, a group of galleries featuring installation and work from PNCA students. Gabe Flores and Gary Wiseman are curators behind the project and they will be my guests this Tuesday on Art Focus.

She maintains Artery and Murdoch Collections, where she exhibits and sells work out of her private collection. Guest host Tom Cramer speaks with artist Esther Podemski about her new documentary "The Peasant and The Priest," which is about how globalization manifests in two aspects of Italian life today: the passing of traditional farming in Italy and the increase in enforced prostitution. The film is threaded with a metaphor from a medieval fresco in Siena, "The Allegory of Good and Bad Government" by Ambriogio Lorenzetti.

Host Wendy Webb speaks with Linda Tesner, Director of the Hoffman Gallery at Lewis and Clark College. They discuss Alison Saar: Bound for Glory, an exhibition exploring the sculptures and works on paper of Alison Saar. Saar’s York: Terra Incognita, a tribute to the memory of William Clark’s slave, was dedicated on Lewis & Clark’s campus in May 2010. The exhibition is up through December 12th.

John Brodie talks about his Store for a Month

John Brodie organized Store for a Month, which opens June 3rd. Brodie takes his concept from Claes Oldenburg’s “Store” of 1961, inviting artists to make works on the spot and sell them too. One of the works offered is the piece above, Cloud Painting 1 by Arcy Douglass. Over 60 artists are participating. John Brodie will joined us on KBOO and told us all about the store.

Anne Grgich is a self-taught outsider artist who recently returned to Portland to stay. She shows with Mark Wooley and has shown all over the world. She known for dense, over-the-top books which are collaged, painted and are more like sculpture than what we typcally think of as books. She talks about her work here but also Outsider art in general.

Vanessa Renwick: House of Sound

Vanessa Renwick talks about her new show and film which is at the New American Art Union  called House of Sound

The installation comprises of: 2 channel audio, 35mm film to video, plexiglass, metal, candles, couches, lamps, speakers, rug, record stand, a turntable and a record collection the viewer is encouraged to play - if, that is, they care to stop listening to the fairly freewheeling and happy audio of the video, an oral history about the House of Sound. The audio is a real contrast to the footage (still above).

Renwick creates haunting art out of documentary film, works which are often site-specific and interactive. She is also known as the founder of the Oregon Department of Kick Ass.
