An Evening of Afrotainment

Black music is to U.S. music what Africa is to civilization... the cornerstone.

Don't believe it? Just Listen.

Join host Celeste Carey, aka Adiva, to hear music of the African Diaspora by Black artists-worldwide. All genres...from African traditional to esoteric experimental. Slip and slide aurally through the spectrum of the Black experience.

I do read posts!

You will concede, for I do read-to capture listeners' thoughts, indeed.
Then I'll proceed; your soul to knead, and on my vibe, your ears will feed.
Your mind will heed, I'll plant the seed ....the phat-est beats for you I'll breed.

Pied piper lead: Adiva's creed "let not the light from us recede"...
In Afrotainment...to all things... what they need.
Celestially, Ms Adiva

Tonight's featured artisit is N'Dea Davenport, one of the original members of the Brand New Heavies. I'll showcase her versatility and verve from the cds The Brand New Heavies and her self entitiled release N'Dea Davenport.

Nat King Cole is channeled by new artists on Re: Generations; an irregular but loving and listen-able homage. The cd has Natalie and Dad together again. Some good things don't end! Listen and hit me back with your thoughts.

Electronica and symphonic orchestration flow through Jeff Mills on Blue Potential. The two disk set features live recordings with Jeff and the Montpellier Philharmonic Orchestra, and a disk with interviews, a concert, documentary and tutorial.

Donna Summer and Marvin Gaye add to the overall flavor of Afrotainment with a deeper view inside: Donna's country twangings  on Crayons reveal a playful, whimsical side, whereas Marvin bares all in and with evocative whispers, sighs and tuneful swoons. He is just as enticing as you dreamed. The special release Vulnerable is on the Motown label, released in 1997.

(Maya) Ayam Marches Right Up to You again via her cd...thank GOD she left it...more from her coming. Look for her around town. She should be playing somewhere SOOOOON! Didjagitthe "hinthinthint", Ayam...?

Like what you hear? Can't understand why I'm playing that drekk? Want me to check out an artist or genre? Drop me a line and share here on the Afrotainment page. Thanks for supporting your "community connection" KBOO Portland! Celeste (aka Adiva)

Celeste--I didn't get in. but this the best music on the rdio a NOW, thank you@   trina\

Great Music!

I also listened for the first time this past Saturday. I was searching the website afterwards to find the name of the song that played at 7:55pm.
Here I came back to search the following night and am I glad to have read this section first. No wonder I couldn't find it. In the meantime, I found some great music from your previous play lists and I'll be back.
Thank you!

Celeste (MsAdiva)

I dig the groove

Celeste,

I enjoy your spins very much. You have an ear for what's good and a mind that can bring it all together seamlessly. But please, can you post what you play each week? It would be a public service to your listeners and the artists you play.

Peace,

J.

Afrotainment

Jan 3, Sat eve 7:00p.m., my husband and I are enjoying your selections! Please tell what artists did "Amazing Grace" and the african song with the drums that followed. Gave us goosebumps! I want to buy some of this music.

Thanks, Penny and Dave

Playlists to be posted very sooooon!

J:
I will get them on; I've been promising far too long. KBOO's website has changed so much, but now we are ready for this next step.
I should have this past Saturday's done by the end of the week.
Thanks for listening!
