Peace Writing Scholarship Recipients Share Their Award Winning Essays

Celeste Carey and Cecil Prescod interview Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility's (PSR) 2015 Greenfield Peace Writing Scholarship recipients: : First Place - Chelsea Lin (West Linn High School, West Linn, OR) Second Place - Everett Somers (The Academy of Arts and Academics, Springfield, OR) Third Place - Josiah Taylor (Trillium Charter School, Portland, OR)

Open to all junior and senior high school students in Oregon, the Greenfield Peace Writing Scholarship is an opportunity for Oregon’s young people to express themselves and share their ideas regarding some of the most critically important issues of our time. This year’s Greenfield Peace Writing Scholarship asks students to respond, in the form of either an essay, poem or narrative work, to the following writing prompt: “One child, one teacher, one pen and one book can change the world. Education is the only solution. Education first.” –Malala Yousafzai, age 17, recipient of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize. What do you see as the role of education in creating a more just and peaceful world?”
